"Back in July of 2020, I pitched Judy [Blume] how I would reimagine this love story," Mara Brock Akil wrote on Instagram when she announced her new show, 'Forever,' based on Blume's 1975 novel. The book follows a teenage couple named Katherine and Michael as they explore their sexuality, and themselves, during their senior year of high school. Now, 50 years later, the classic young adult story gets an update from Akil (the mind behind 'Girlfriends,' 'Being Mary Jane,' and more). Set in 2018, the eight-episode limited series stars Lovie Simone and Michael Cooper Jr. as the story's protagonists, now named Keisha and Justin. Blume also serves as an executive producer. The result is a heartfelt coming-of-age romance that's both modern and timeless.
Elsewhere on-screen, 'The Last of Us' featured a major turning point for season 2—and star Isabela Merced walked us through Dina and Ellie's big moment. We're also breaking down the surprise reveal at the end of Marvel's new blockbuster, 'Thunderbolts*,' and the biggest takeaways from Karol G's new documentary. |
