It's hard to imagine political drama much crazier than what's currently going down in Washington, D.C., but Netflix's thriller The Diplomat does its darndest to challenge that high bar. The show's third season, which dropped last week, is a treat—largely thanks to a stellar cast led by Keri Russell, Rufus Sewell, Allison Janney, David Gyasi, Ato Essandoh, and Ali Ahn, among others. As Janney's character, Grace Penn, becomes the (female!) president of the U.S. in season 3, the stakes only escalate. To break down some of the show's biggest moments (and pertinent themes), ELLE brought Russell and Janney together in conversation—and they teased the wild ride to come in season 4. Elsewhere, we're drooling over the clothes in After the Hunt, reading Megha Majumdar's buzzy new novel A Guardian and a Thief, and relishing the fact that it's finally Frankenstein season. We hope you get to unleash your inner Creature this weekend. —Lauren Puckett-Pope, staff culture writer |
