Our collective fascination with tradwives shows no signs of abating, with followers and hate-followers alike giving their butter-churning, gingham-bedecked corner of the internet plenty of airtime. So the second I got my hands on an advance copy of Caro Claire Burke’s debut novel Yesteryear—which made a stir pre-publication when Anne Hathaway signed on to produce and star in the adaptation—I knew I had to talk to her about translating the world of influencers into page-turning fiction. Tradwives “felt like this door for women to talk about the things they don’t always feel they’re allowed to talk about,” Burke told me, admitting to getting sucked into the social-media matrix herself at times.
